Freetown (Sierra Leone), Dec 8 (IANS): The African Football Confederation (CAF) has lifted the ban on Sierra Leone hosting matches, saying the country was free of the Ebola infection.
"International football matches and CAF competitions can again be organised in the West African country, something which was not possible since August 2014 when CAF, upon the recommendations of the WHO, suspended football matches in countries affected by the epidemic Ebola virus, namely Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone," CAF said in a statement on Monday, reports Xinhua.
It was reported that Ebola in Sierra Leone had killed almost 4,000 people before the country was declared free of transmission last month.
CAF had approved Liberia for re-host matches in July.
