Evaluate government's work with open mind: Modi

New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said India's march towards a bright future has not occurred suddenly and there is a need to look at the government's work of about last two years with an open mind.

Addressing the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit here, Modi said there was an acceptance that India was moving at the fastest pace among bigger economies and also an assumption that India is moving towards a bright future.

"This does not happen suddenly. It has to be seen in the global context and the conditions of the past. If we overlook the past two years and then evaluate, it will not be the right thing," he said.

"I know it is a difficult task, it needs an open mind and courage. Where were we, what conditions we were in. There was an atmosphere of gloom on all sides," Modi said, referring to the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government.

Modi, who led the Bharatiya Janata Party to an emphatic victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, said a stable government helps in speedy progress and the people of the country deserve credit for electing a government with full majority.
