Lille fires coach Renard for poor results

Paris, Nov 12 (IANS): French Ligue 1 side Lille has announced it has dismissed coach Herve Renard for the poor results of the team, which is currently placed 16th in the standings.

The club announced in a statement on Wednesday it reached an agreement with the 47-year-old Frenchman to terminate his contract in light of the "perilous position" of the club whose results are certainly not up to the club's objectives, reports Efe.

Lille added in the statement that assistant coach Patrick Collot will assume command in the coming days, adding that club president, Michel Seydoux, will quickly make the appropriate decisions.

Renard came to Lille last May supported by his success as a coach in the African Cup of Nations, which he won in 2012 with Zambia and in 2015 with Ivory Coast.
