Kundapur, Aug 11: Children belonging to the Koraga community, a commonity which is regarded as the original inhabitants of Tulunad, are all set to perform Yakshagana now. Koraga children will perform Yakshagana on Wednesday August 15 at Kedur near Koteshwar.

No person from Koraga community has yet performed Yakshagana, which has a history of several decades or centuries. Owing to the efforts of state award winner artist Arate Manjunath, Koraga community children are now ready for Yakshagana.

Koraga children who stay in Sphoortidham in Kedur will perform ‘Dhruva Charitre’ on Independence Day. Only Koraga and Dalit children will participate in this Yakshagana. District minister-in-charge Dr V S Acharya, N B Vijay Ballal, administrative trustee of Ambalapadi temple, Kundapur Taluk Panchayat vice-president Ananta Movvadi, Byndoor MLA K Gopal Poojary, CEO P Hemalatha and former U R Sabhapati will be present on the occassion. The programme will start at 6.30 pm.

With the support of Keshav Koteshwar, secretary of Sphoorti, Maheshkumar has trained these children. Dr Y Chndrashekhar Shetty has directed this Yakshagana.

Even after 6 decades of independence, the Koraga community has not attained literacy to the fullest extent. But their efforts to enter the field of Yakshagana has been highly appreciated by the progressive thinkers.
