Mangalore, Aug 10: Monthly consumer adalats at all taluk centres should be conducted compulsorily here after, informed Ratnakar Naik director of Food and Civil Supplies Department Deputy (DD) at a district level consumers’ adalat held under the chairmanship of Prabhakar Sharma, headquarters assistant at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Thursday August 9.
 
Naik said that though the state government issued a circular on May 4, 2004, regarding this regard, it had not been implemented so far effectively anywhere.  However, these kinds of lapses would not bee tolerated in the future and that consumer adalats must be held every month.

The meet weas dominated with the complaints of irregular supply of domestic gas.  The consumers have been facing a lot of problems these days to procure domestic gas. When this was brought to the notice of Naik, he said that the department does not have any right to take action against the gas dealers and that they cannot regulate the latters in anyway.

Speaking on behalf of the dealers, he said that the dealers too face a lot of problems. Many a time they get gas from their company after a long period.

Sharma asked the officials of Food and Civil Supplies to conduct surprise visit to gas dealers and to check whether the gas is being sold for profitable purpose.

Naik told the consumers that a special meeting will be conducted soon regarding the issue, as well as the solutions for the delay in gas supply will be found out.

Ravi Kuma,r legal metrology assistant controller, Smitha and others were present in the adalat.
