Mangalore, Aug 9: The activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged protest in the city over the government's negligence towards Colonel Vasant who died a week ago.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike has pleaded the governor of Karnataka in the memorandum submitted that it condemns the government for not deputing any officials to receive the mortal remains of Colonel Vasant who died after serving 18 years in Indian Army on July 31.

The activists alleged that the CM was busy posing with Dr Haneef, a medico detained by Australian security forces who arrived at Bangalore International airport in the last week. Besides this none of the ministers paid a visit to his family residing at Sadashivnagar, in order to pay homage for the honoured army man.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike expressed displeasure over the state government, which has not expressed empathy with the bereaved family by offering government employment for his wife not has it taken responsibility for educating his children on compassionate grounds, which shows it has neither the regard nor love for the army man from the land of Karnataka. "However, government has offered job to Dr Haneef in order to please the minority community.

Vedike further expressed apprehension over the soldiers in general that how it could be possible to instill self confidence in them, if this is the state of government treating a soldier from its soil.  On the other hand, Vedike criticized extravagant life style of ministers and bureaucrats who have had no courtesy to attend the funeral of brave soldier who has sacrificed his life for the sake of our country.

Vedike further stated that they are planning state-wide protest to press the government to honour their assurances to build Dr Raj Kumar memorial building, an icon of Kannada cinema at Kantheerava stadium in Bangalore.
