Akhilesh questions Modi on soaring prices

Lucknow, Oct 20 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to check rising food prices.

He also asked journalists to question him on the issue.

Emerging from a cabinet meeting, Yadav said Modi should explain where his promised solutions to control price rise had vanished.

The Samajwadi Party leader was referring to Modi's promises made during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"Where is the magic formula (he said he had)?" Yadav asked, pointing out that soaring prices had made life difficult for the common man.

Urging the central government to come out with a nationwide action plan to curb prices, the 42-year-old chief minister said the Uttar Pradesh government was acting against hoarders.

"Wherever we get information about black marketing and illegal stockpiling of essential food items, we have ordered officials to crack down," he said.
