Shiraz claims amateur golf title


New Delhi, Oct 16 (IANS): Shiraz Singh won the 6th Usha DGC Ladies Open Amateur Golf Championship at the Delhi Golf Club (DGC) here as she signed off with an 85 on Friday, which gave her a three-round aggregate of 244.

Shiraz, an eight-handicapper, capitalised on her display from the first two days to carve out a nine-stroke win over second placed Dhanalaxmi Rice.

Dhanalaxmi (10-handicap) got a 84 for a three-day total of 253. Lalita Balasubramaniam (13-handicap) held on to the third spot on 261, while nine-handicapper Himadri Singh finished fourth with a total of 264.

Aashana Singh, who was second after the first day, finished fifth, three strokes behind Himadri.

A total of 73 Indian and foreign amateur golfers were in the fray for the championship.
