30 killed in Nigeria mosque blasts

Abuja, Oct 16 (IANS): At least 30 people died in two explosions at a mosque near the Nigerian city of Maiduguri, officials said on Friday.

The attack took place on Thursday night in the Mulai suburb.

One suicide bomber detonated an explosive inside the mosque, a National Emergency Management Agency official told the BBC.

A second suicide bomber struck as people tried to escape, he said.

The injured have been admitted to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

No group has claimed responsibility so far.

Thursday's incident was the second this week in the northeast city of Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, after multiple blasts killed at least eight people in another location on Tuesday.

More than 100 people were killed in three explosions in the city last month.
