Violence erupts at actor Ajay Devgn's rally for BJP in Bihar


Patna, Oct 13 (India Today) : An election rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar Sharif witnessed chaotic scenes on Tuesday after hundreds of people, who had gathered to see actor Ajay Devgn, turned violent.

Police had to resort to lathicharge after the crowd went bersek just when the chopper with BJP leaders and Ajay Devgn was to land at the crowd. The police action triggered violent reaction from the crowd.

The unruly mob started pelting stones and dismantled the barricading. The helicopter with the Bollywood actor made several attempts to land but failed as the situation on the ground went out of control. Several people, including some policemen and mediamen were injured in the violence.

The BJP-led NDA has roped in Ajay Devgn to canvass support for its candidates in the ongoing Assembly elections in Bihar.

Devgn, who has worked in Bihar centric films like Gangaajal and Apharan addressed few rallies for BJP last week.
