Mumbai, Jul 26: The Governor of Maharashtra S M Krishna has said that the outgoing President of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam will be remembered by one and all as one of the most popular and outstanding Presidents of India. In a letter addressed to Dr Kalam on the latter's last day in office, Governor Krishna wrote:

"During your tenure of 5 years as the President of India, you left an indelible imprint of your distinct style, erudition and scholarship.   While the youth and students saw you as an icon of present times, the academic and the scientific community developed fondness for you as a leader with a vision for India.   I have no doubt in my mind that you will be remembered by one and all as one of the most popular and outstanding Presidents of India.

I understand from the press reports that you are planning to go back to teaching and academic activities. While wishing you all well for your post-retirement engagements, I do hope that you will continue to guide the nation in fulfilling your dream of creating a modern and egalitarian India."

The Governor has also expressed his gratitude for Dr Kalam for his guidance and support to him during the last 3 years.

The Governor has also congratulated Pratibha Patil on becoming the President of India.
