Injured Sydney boxer taken off life support, dies

Canberra, Sep 15 (IANS): A Sydney boxer has died after his family decided to turn off his life support system following injuries he received in a bout, the media reported on Tuesday.

Davey Browne Jr. died from a punch in a regional title fight in New South Wales, Xinhua news agency reported.

The 28-year-old father-of-two was knocked out 30 seconds from the scheduled end of his 12-round contest.

He initially regained consciousness but collapsed and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition suffering from brain injuries.

NSW minister for Sport Stuart Ayres said the combat sports authority would fully cooperate with the police in their investigation.

"My thoughts are with David's family and friends during this tragic time," Ayres said on Tuesday.
