Mangalore, Jul 6: Journalists have great responsibilities and a single or a small mistake committed by them will misguide the readers, said R P Jagadish assistant editor of Prajavani, a Kannada national daily.

Addressing press persons here on Thursday July 5 he said that there should be a vigorous competition among the papers and the young journalists should see that, their readers get the factual information.

Calling upon the journalists of small-scale and local newspapers, he told them to avoid inferiority complex with the large-scale newspapers.

He further said that there is nothing to worry about the competition between electronic media and the print media, because the proportion of newspaper readership has not declined.
 
Reporters of print media can add interpretation and analysis to their reports so that readers are encouraged to read. Thus the print media can not only survive amidst the competition but also achieve the objective laid by journalism, he added.

Persons engaged in the field should think of contributing something to the society, so that they can serve the society, he said and added that the journalists should follow certain code of conduct.

Ravindra Shetty, president of Dakshina Kannada district working journalists’ union and Ananda Shetty, president of press club Mangalore were present in the press meet.
