KGA award for amateur golfer Aditi Ashok

Bengaluru, Sep 14 (IANS): The Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) conferred the 'Excellence in Golf in 2015' award on 17-year-old Aditi Ashok in recognition of her recent achievements which included winning the Singha Thailand Amateur Championship last week, the 2015 British Ladies Amateur Strokeplay Championship and the prestigious 2015 St. Rule Trophy at St. Andrews.

KGA president Venkat Subramaniam presented the local golfer an award at the prize distribution ceremony of the seventh Toyota Karnataka Golf Festival here on Sunday.

In her reply, Aditi said: "It feels great to be recognised for my achievements. I have played some of my best golf this year and I couldn't have done it without the help of my parents, my school, the Frank Anthony Public School, my home club, Bangalore Golf Club and of course the KGA who always acknowledge my best performances.

"I also want to thank my swing coach Steven Giuliano and my fitness coach Nicolas Cabaret for their continued efforts in shaping me to be one of the top amateurs in the world. It is very encouraging and I want to work harder and do even better."

Aditi has had a tremendous run in the 2015 season as an amateur and she was the only player to shoot an under-par score (finished at two-under) to win the Singha Thailand Open last week.

Earlier this year, she became the first Indian golfer and one of the youngest to win the British Amateur Strokeplay Championship and won the prestigious St. Rule Trophy at St. Andrews, the home of golf.

As part of the St. Rule Trophy, she also won the Lawson Trophy for the lowest aggregate by an Under-18 player at 10-under par in the 54-hole tournament.

Aditi, who is the current leader of the Indian Golf Union (IGU)'s ladies amateur order of merit, also finished second in the 2015 European Women's Amateur Championship in July at Austria. She also represented India at the Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship in August in Taiwan and finished T-14 along with her partner Karandeep Kochar.
