Hamburg cruise 3-0 past Monchengladbach

Berlin, Sep 12 (IANS): Hamburg's Pierre-Michel Lasogga provided two goals to extend Borussia Monchengladbach's losing streak at the opener of the fourth round in Bundesliga on Friday.

Monchengladbach suffered their fourth loss in as many games to set a new all-time low in the club's Bundesliga history. The "HSV" sealed their second win of the season against uninspired "Foals" within 52 minutes thanks to the goals by Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Nicolai Mueller on the road, reports Xinhua.

Hamburg caught a perfect start on the road as Monchengladbach's defender Tony Jantschke invited Hamburg's Lasogga with a misplaced return pass, allowing the striker to round goalkeeper Yann Sommer for the opener at the 11th minute.

The visitors retracted with the lead and lurked for counter attacks meanwhile Monchengladbach failed to gain a foothold into the game.

Thus, Hamburg made use of Monchengladbach's harmless performance to double the lead just before the break. Lasogga wrapped his brace with a header following a corner by Ivo Ilicevic with one minute remaining in the first half.

After the restart, Bruno Labbadia's men continued where they left off as Nicolai Mueller tapped home a long goal kick by keeper Jaroslav Drobny to put the game beyond doubt with a three-goal lead at the 52nd minute.

The "Foals" were absolutely harmless and failed to threat Hamburg's defense over 90 minutes. With the result, Lucien Favre's men ensured the worst start in the club's Bundesliga history.

"We staged a disillusioning performance today. This was an encounter to forget," Monchengladbach's sporting director Max Eberl said.

"We secured a perfect start on the road and protected our lead to the end. It was a good performance overall," Hamburg's coach Bruno Labbadia said.

The following fixtures are scheduled for Saturday: Bayern Munich host Augsburg, Leverkusen see newly promoted Darmstadt, Berlin face Stuttgart, newly promoted Ingolstadt clash with Wolfsburg and Frankfurt encounter Cologne.
