Mangalore, Jul 4: A sum of Rs five crore has been released to Dakshina Kannada district to provide compensation to the victims of rain said revenue minister Jagadish Shetter near here on Tuesday. 

Addressing mediapersons in Sullia he pointed out that there was confusion over maximum limit for the distribution of compensation. So the rule has now been changed and accordingly a sum of Rs 1 lac will be disbursed to the kin of each of those who have been killed in the rains and Rs 20,000 will be paid to those who have lost their houses, he said.

Shettar further stated that so far title-deeds were distributed under Bhoomi project but now a computerized caste certificate, income certificate and birth and death certificates will be distributed at Nemmadi Kendra. He also said that the government has opened Nemmadi Kendra in 800 hobalis in the state to put all the things into order.

The government has increased the honorarium paid to the aged, widows and the handicapped from Rs 200 to Rs 400. He also said that the formation of taluks has not yet been decided but the issue will be discussed in the next cabinet meeting and that he would see to it that the new taluks are formed at the earliest.
