Mangalore, Jun 27: Singapore will extend its support in developing infrastructure and particularly setting up IT parks in the two-tier cities of the country and the state, said Ajit Singh, consul-general, Consulate General of the Republic of Singapore.

He was speaking at an interactive session with the members of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Tuesday June 26.

Singh said that the IT parks will be based on similar projects set up in Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Pondicherry. Singapore will also lend its hand in developing townships for IT parks and special economics zone, he said.

Expressing his country’s keenness to invest in the city, he said that the city has a vast potential in terms of township development, IT parks and airport construction.

He also laid stress on the need for tourism development in the district and said that once the local developers take initiative to promote tourism, the foreign investment will also pour in.

The government of Singapore has invested in the development of airports in India, he informed. Stating that Singapore is the 7th largest investor in India, he said that the IT park in Bangalore is also an initiative of the Singapore government.

Among those present were KCCI president John Prasad Menezes, director G G Mohandas Prabhu and other KCCI members.
