United's new signing Martial to wear No.9 shirt

London, Sep 2 (IANS): English football giants Manchester United have announced that their new signing Anthony Martial will wear the No.9 shirt.

The 19-year-old French striker on Tuesday joined United from AS Monaco on a four-year contract with the option of a fifth for 36 million pounds ($55.02 million).

The 19-year-old acquisition from Monaco follows Radamel Falcao in taking the famous number which previously appeared on the backs of the club's strikers Dimitar Berbatov, Louis Saha, Andy Cole and Brian McClair.

Cole, who scored 121 goals in 275 games for United, tweeted "Welcome aboard @AnthonyMartial" when ManUtd.com announced the French forward's arrival on Tuesday afternoon.
