Colombo, Sep 1 (HT): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has charged Indian pacer Ishant Sharma and Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal and Dhammika Prasad for breaching its Code of Conduct with their boorish behaviour during the fourth day’s play in the third Test on Monday.

A brief ICC message on Tuesday, the last day of the deciding Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo, said further details will be announced at the end of the match. Ishant was fined 65% of his match fee for his send-off to Thirimanne and Chandimal in the second Test after dismissing them.

Thirimanne was fined 30% for showing dissent after lingering at the crease before walking away.

Tempers flared up on the fourth evening after number 11 Ishant was greeted with bouncers by Prasad, who had been hit on his left hand by a bouncer by the India pacer while batting.

Ishant banged his helmet to tell the Sri Lanka pacer to hit him on his head. Chandimal, fielding at slip brushed past Ishant before the umpires waved him away, while Thirimanne ran in from forward shortleg to join his teammate.

There was more drama as India, having set Sri Lanka an improbable 386-run fourth innings target, bowled. Ishant yelled out at Upul Tharanga after dismissing him and then hit his head repeatedly after having Chandimal caught.

Apart from the two wickets in the second innings so far, Ishant also claimed a five-wicket haul in Sri Lanka's first innings total of 201 all out.

India hold the edge in the ongoing fifth day of play, with Sri Lanka's Kaushal Silva falling for 27 early in the first session. A win will give the visitors just their second series win in the island nation, and their first since 1993.
