US hiker found alive after nine-day hunt

Washington, Aug 30 (IANS): A US hiker missing for nine days in California has been found alive, a media report said on Sunday.

Miyuki Harwood, 62, of Orangevale was reported missing in the rugged Sierra Nevada mountains, CNN reported.

She suffered broken bones and had not eaten in nine days, said Fresno county Sheriff Margaret Mims, who spoke to Harwood at the hospital. "She was conscious, talking and very, very grateful she was found."

Ground, helicopter and drone searches failed to locate her earlier but she was finally found near Courtright reservoir in Fresno county on Saturday.

Harwood, a systems analyst at Intel, was camping with the Sierra Club near Horsehead lake. She left the base camp the morning of August 21 for a solo day hike.

When she failed to return, the other campers reported her missing.
