Russian Kuchina wins women's high jump gold


Beijing, Aug 29 (IANS): Russian Maria Kuchina cleared 2.01 metres to win the women's high jump gold medal at the World Athletics Championships here on Saturday.

Croatian Blanka Vlasic, who had failed once at 1.92 metres, had to settle for the silver medal in 2.01 metres at the Bird's Nest stadium, reports Xinhua.

Russian Anna Chicherova, who had failed at 1.97 metres and 2.01 metres, flew over 2.01 metres in her second attempt to finish third.
