Bajwa, Desai clinch junior tennis titles

Chennai, Aug 29 (IANS): Paramveer Singh Bajwa and Zeel Desai won the boys and girls singles titles respectively in the YMCA-TTT ITF junior tennis tournament, here on Saturday.

Bajwa easily accounted for Rian Pandole 6-2, 6-3, and Desai overcame Shivani Amineni 6-3, 7-6(4), in the finals.

In the boys' final, Bajwa broke Pandole in the third and seventh games to take the set comfortably. High on confidence, Bajwa again broke Pandole twice in the second set and though he dropped serve once, his dominance was never really questioned.

The girls' final saw Desai setting the trend with a break of serve in the very first game and again in the third and seventh for a commanding lead. Though Amineni hitback with a break in the eighth, she could not counter Desai's aggression.

In the second set, Desai, aided by a couple of breaks, led 4-1, but Amineni fought back to level at 4-4 and with games going to serve thereafter, the tie-break was enforced. Desai proved far too strong and went on to win the tie-break for the match.
