Mangalore, Jun 23: It seems that law and order in the district is perfectly alright and there are no problems.  This could be the only reason why 7 police officials of the district on leave.

On Thursday June 21 only Bunder, Suratkal, Puttur and Bantwal inspectors were on duty while seven others were on leave while two posts are vacant.

Beltangady police inspector Gangi Reddy is on medical leave while Sullia has no police inspector.  Puttur rural inspector Manjunath Rai is leave while Puttur ASP Dr Harsha is on three-day leave.  This effectively means that only Puttur and Bantwal inspectors are on duty in Puttur sub-division.

When it comes to Mangalore, the situation is still pathetic.  Though there are 5 stations it the city limits only Bunder inspector Umesh Sheth on duty along with DySP.  Pandeshwar police inspector Venkatesh Prasanna is in Bangalore to attend court proceedings while Kadri inspector's post is vacant. Traffic inspector Subrahmanya too is out of station to attend court proceedings.  Mangalore rural station inspector Jayant Shetty has gone to attend court proceedings and will be back only after a day's leave.  B D'Souza, DySP in SP's office is on leave.  Even Mulki inspector Suresh has gone to Hasan for court proceedings on Thursday evening.

This means that only Bunder inspector Umesh and Suratkal inspector Jagannath are on duty.  Though there are valid reasons for their leave, it is also true that their need is acutely felt.
