Mangalore, Jun 23: Reports reaching to Daijiworld office here have informed that all the 24 crew members in the sunken "Den Den" ship at Tannir Bavi are safe and would soon be rescued.

Coastal Guards are trying their level best to rescue the crew who are standing on the one side of the deck waiting for the rescue team to arrive.  Though earlier the Coastal Guards tried to rescue them, the crew could not come owing to some technical problems and owing to the regulations.

Now that it is almost certain that Western African ship which is sinking cannot be brought to the shore, crew will be rescued.

Reports confirmed that the ship had come to NMPT on Friday June 22 evening to fetch slag from KISKO.  Owing to some technical snags ship had been anchored at the entry to estuary.  Later in the night owing to heavy rains and thunderstorm ship moved towards Tannir Bavi and soon began sinking.

Though earlier reports said that ship was on its way to USA, now it has been confirmed that it was a Dubai-bound ship.  Coastal Guards had received radio information in the small hours of Saturday.  But rough weather and turbulent sea prevented them from getting into action immediately.

Mangalore, Jun 23: A West Africa flagged ship with 25 crew members is caught in the middle of the sea near Tannirbavi here and facing the danger of sinking.

Coastal Guards sources said that they received a message from 'Den Den' ship in the small hours of Saturday June 23, that it was sinking owing to heavy rains and thunderstorm.  The ship was on its way to USA after loading a pile of waste material, from New Mangalore Port on Friday June 22 night.

The tragedy stuck between 1 and 2 am on Saturday morning when the violent sea and mighty waves plugged a whole in the ship and water started gushing inside.

Though the Coast Guards got into action immediately, their efforts went in vain owing to turbulent sea and rough weather.  However, efforts are still on to rescue the trapped crew.  Recent reports said that the ship is almost submerged with only a tip of the ship floating on the surface.

More details are awaited.
