Pawan Kalyan thanks Chandrababu for halting land acquisition

Hyderabad, Aug 28 (IANS): Popular Telugu actor and Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan on Friday thanked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu for taking steps to stop land acquisition for construction of the state's new capital.

The actor tweeted that he was thankful to the chief minister for sympathetically considering the sentiments of farmers.

He also thanked Agriculture Minister P. Pulla Rao, Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana and other ministers for the initiative taken towards halting the land acquisition.

Pawan had visited some villages in Guntur district on August 23 to meet farmers and oppose forcible acquisition of land. He had threatened to stage a sit-in if the TDP-led government went ahead with the forcible land acquisition.

The actor has been opposing acquisition of fertile and multi-crop lands for construction of the capital. He had also taken a dig at some ministers who criticised him for opposing the process.

Pawan, who had campaigned for the TDP-BJP combine in last year's elections, wants the government to constitute an experts' panel to resolve the issue.
