Abhinav ousts Vashisht in junior tennis


Chennai, Aug 27 (IANS): Abhinav Sanjeev knocked out top seed Vashisht Cheruku 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-3 en route to the boys under-18 semi-finals in the YMCA-TTT ITF junior tennis tournament here on Thursday.

Also making his exit was second seed Nikshep Ravikumar, who went down in three sets to No.5 Ishaq Iqbal.

Boys (U-18) Singles (Quarterfinals): Abhinav Sanjeev bt 1-Vashisht Cheruku 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-3; 6-Paramveer Singh Bajwa bt Q-Samyukth Balaji 5-7, 6-1, 6-4; 7-Rian Pandole bt Sanil Jagtiani 6-4, 6-2; 5-Ishaq Iqbal bt 2-Nikshep Ballekere Ravikumar 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-4.

Girls (U-18) Singles (Quarterfinals): 9-Lalita Devarakonda bt 13-Aarja Chakrobarthy 6-0, 6-1; 6-Shivani Amineni bt 3-Jennifer Luikham 7-6(5), 6-3; 1-Zeel Desai bt 7-Shivani Swarup Ingle 6-2, 6-1; 2-Sathwika Sama bt Priyana Kalita 6-3, 6-3.

Boys (U18) Doubles (Semi-finals): 3-Paramveer Singh Bajwa / Param Pun bt 1-Vasisht Cheruku A/ Rishi Reddy 2-6, 7-6(1), 10-5; 5-Sahil Deshmukh / Alex Solanki bt 6- Anirudh Chandrasekhar / Sri Aakash Reddiyar (MAS) 7-5, 6-4.

Girls (U-18) Doubles (Semi-finals): 1-Sathwika Sama / Shivani Swarup Ingle bt Sravya Shivani Chilakalapudi / Rutvi Shah 5-7, 6-2, 10-8; Shivani Amineni / Humera Begum Shaik bt Shivani Manjanna / Rashmika Rajan 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.
