Real Madrid defender Coentrao joins Monaco on loan

Madrid, Aug 27 (IANS): Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid has announced its Portuguese defender Fabio Coentrao will join French side Monaco on loan for one season.

Coentrao preferred to join Monaco on Wednesday, despite having an offer to play for Italian giants Inter Milan, reports Efe.

Coentrao will compensate for the absence of Monaco's left back Layvin Kurzawa, who joined French champions Paris Saint-Germain, also on loan.

The Portuguese joined Real Madrid in 2011.
