Dutch football great Kluivert bats for vulnerable Ugandan children

Kampala, Aug 25 (IANS): Former FC Barcelona striker and assistant coach of The Netherlands Patrick Kluivert launched a programme with the UN children's agency to raise awareness about vulnerable children in Uganda.

United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Uganda and FC Barcelona entered a collaboration on Monday to use football as a tool to bring hope to hundreds of thousands of vulnerable children in need across Uganda, Xinhua reported.

Kluivert is in Uganda as part of the global UNICEF/FC Barcelona partnership.

UNICEF in a statement said sport has a unique power to attract, mobilise and inspire.

"Sport contributes to healthy child development; it builds self-esteem and life skills," the statement said.
