Atletico to leave for Spain on Tuesday for pre-season training

Kolkata, Aug 24 (IANS): ISL defending champions Atletico de Kolkata is all set to embark on a month long pre-season training at Los Angeles de San Rafael ground in Spain's El Espinar on Tuesday.

The training module has been designed to get the footballers in right physical shape for the second season of the Indian Super League beginning on October 3, the club said in a press statement.

The squad's Indian contingent will take an Emirates flight at 9.40 a.m. on Tuesday morning from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here.

However, Arnab Mondal and Rino Anto will join the team later in Spain due to their national team commitments for the Pre-World Cup qualifiers.

"The training will be basic yet strict. The technical aspect of the players would be scrutinized for the whole month in order to achieve their optimum potential," said Atletico head coach Antonio Lopez Habas.

"We are certain that this training is definitely going to make a difference in the end results for the second season of the ISL.

"With new additions this season, this training module will help in organizing our team and induce the right team spirit prior to the kick off. It is essential to be confident and get into the groove as a team while moving towards the business end," said club co-owner Sanjiv Goenka.

Atletico de Kolkata will start training in Los Angeles de San Rafael on August 26.

The internationals will join the Indian players for the training, which will be rigorous and will focus on improving the fitness of the team both physically and mentally, the release said.
