Man-U star Pereira named in Brazil U-23 team

Rio de Janeiro, Aug 15 (IANS): Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira was among 10 Europe-based players named in Brazil's U-23 squad for a September friendly against France.

Others to be called up by national coach Dunga on Friday included midfielder Rafinha, centre-back Rodrigo Ely and midfielder Lucas Silva, reports Xinhua.

Brazil's Olympic-aged team will meet France in Le Mans on September 8.

The announcement came a day after Dunga announced a 24-man senior squad for international friendlies against Costa Rica and the United States next month.

Dunga, who took over as Brazil's U-23 coach in May, said he will use the match to begin planning for next year's Olympics, the only major international football tournament that Brazil has never won.

The squad:

Goalkeepers: Ederson (Benfica), Jean (Bahia)

Defenders: Lucao (Sao Paulo), Marlon (Fluminense), Wallace (Monaco), Rodrigo Ely (Milan), Fabinho (Monaco), Maicon (Livorno), Wendell (Bayer Leverkusen), Jorge (Flamengo)

Midfielders: Rodrigo Caio (Sao Paulo), Lucas Silva (Real Madrid), Otavio (Atletico Paranaense), Eduardo Henrique (Atletico Mineiro), Rafinha (Barcelona), Andreas Pereira (Manchester United), Felipe Anderson (Lazio)

Forwards: Kelvin (Palmeiras), Alisson (Cruzeiro), Carlos (Atletico Mineiro), Luciano (Corinthians), Luan (Gremio)
