Nick Kyrgios penalized for insulting Wawrinka

Madrid, Aug 14 (IANS/EFE): The Association of Tennis Professionals, or ATP, has decided to fine Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios for insulting Swiss star Stan Wawrinka during their Rogers Cup knockout at the Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal.

The ATP said in a statement that Kyrgios was fined for making an insulting remark to Wawrinka in the second round match, and that further details would be determined after Kyrgios was notified.

The 20-year-old Australian hothead apparently said fellow Australian player Thanasi Kokkinakis had slept with who was thought to be Wawrinka's girlfriend.

For his part, Wawrinka later responded on Twitter: "There is no need for this kind of behaviour on or off the court and I hope the governing body of this sport does not stand for this."

"What was said I wouldn't say to my worst enemy. To stoop so low is not only unacceptable but also beyond belief."
