Kundapur, Jun 9: With the beginning of monsoon the agriculturists in the coastal belt have started with their activities in right earnest.

The monsoon has set in earlier than expected, as a result of which the villages such as Kollur, Byndoor, Madamakki Siddapura, Hallihole, Haladi and Shirur have received abundant rainfall. The sea along the coastal belt with its violent waves has also witnessed heavy showers coupled with thunder and lightning.

The majority of the agriculturists in places like Nada, Buntwadi, Uppunda, Uppinakudru, Kodi and Shedimane have launched their agricultural operations in great enthusiasm.

Owing to inadequate supply of common paddy seeds, branded seeds such as Gowri, Jyothi and Karisoddu are being sown in many places. As the government has supplied the seeds at subsidized rates, the farmers have given up the practice of storing seeds. But this has however, resulted in the inadequate supply of seeds in the market.

It is largely observed that the demand for seeds is on increase. It is suggested that with the cooperation of local farmers, the concerned officials of the corporation for the supply and production of paddy seeds could solve the problem of inadequate supply of seeds.
