Rons Bantwal for Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (AF)

Mangalore, Jun 1: Members of the Jayashrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti paid a visit to the premises of Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) recently to discuss the company’s contribution to the district and other issues.

Samiti founder president Tonse Jayashrikrishna A Shetty, president Vishwanath U Mada, vice-presidents Dharmapal U Devadiga, Felix A D’Souza, honorary secretary Rons Bantwal, district vice-presidents K P Jagdish Adhikari, Ramachandra Baikampady and other office-bearers visited the company.

It was the first such visit by the Samiti to the MRPL premises. Jayashrikrina Shetty briefed the delegates present on the Samiti’s talks with ONGC working president R S Sharma which was held earlier.

On the occasion, the Samiti placed several suggestions before the company for the betterment of the society and welfare of the workers. Some of these include provision of basic amenities to the workers, safety equipment including helmets, footwear and belts, together with immediate appointment of environment and safety manager.

The Samiti also suggested the installation of digital meters on all corners of the company so that the public can know the status of environment pollution, provision of a clean canteen for workers, and planting saplings that would last for at least 5 decades in and around its vicinity for the benefit of the public.

They also placed such suggestions as treating of waste water before release in to the sea, examining and maintaining the pH level of water, bring pollution in to control by implementation of latest technology and regular evaluation of the production methods used by the company.

The Samiti members urged the company to reserve 50 per cent of the jobs for the people of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

MRPL phase-3 project vice-president K Satyanarayan, A G Pai of Mangalore SEZ and other officials gave their assurances as to the implementation of the above suggestions.
