UP to decide fee structure for private medical colleges

Lucknow, July 30 (IANS): In a bid to rein in private medical colleges from charging exorbitant admission and other fees from students, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to fix their fee structure, an official said on Thursday.

The medical education department has also issued notice to six private medical colleges and 11 dental colleges seeking to know the rationale behind their fees structure.

In case the responses do not come within the next three days, process to cancel their recognition would be initiated, the official told IANS.

He further added that the state government would now fix the fee structure at these private colleges after a thorough review of facilities in the campus and the infrastructure.

The medical education department has been flooded with complaints that the 27 medical and dental colleges in the private sector have been charging students more than the facilities offered.
