Swati Maliwal takes charge as DCW chief

New Delhi, July 20 (IANS): Swati Maliwal, wife of Aam Aadmi Party leader Naveen Jaihind, on Monday took charge as chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW).

Maliwal, an RTI activist, succeeds Barkha Singh.

After assuming charge, Maliwal said safety of women would be her top priority.

"Safety of women in the national capital would be my top priority as crimes against them are increasing in the city," said Maliwal, who was a member of the India Against Corruption anti-graft movement.

The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party criticised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for appointing Maliwal as DCW chief.
