Indian hockey juniors hammer Germany 3-0

Breda (The Netherlands), July 18 (IANS): India overpowered Germany 3-0 to kick off their Volvo Invitational Under-21 Hockey Tournament campaign on a positive note here on Saturday.

Armaan Qureshi (29th minute), skipper Harjeet Singh (46th) and drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh (52nd) scored for the Indian men's junior team.

Having started on an attacking note, India opened the scoring in the 29th minute after forward Qureshi scored a field goal.

The Harendra Singh-coached side maintained a good pace in the entire first half and did not allow the German men to score and maintained the 1-0 lead in favour at half-time.

The game continued to be in India's favour as midfielder Harjeet entered the opponent's circle and smashed an excellent field goal in the 46th minute to double the lead.

Germany tried their best but their efforts was halted by a disciplined Indian defence.
