Panaji, May 21: A much-acclaimed Hindustani Classical Dance Festival was recently held in Kala Academy, Panaji.

The event was jointly organized by 'Mahagami' Aurangabad and Goa Kala Academy. The Festival was divided into three primary performances namely Oddissi Nritya, Kathak Nritya and Nirankari.

Noted Indian Classical danseuse and Mahagami director Parwati Dutta took the lead in the festival.

Mahagami - short for Mahatma Gandhi Mission Sangeet Academy - of Aurangabad was established in 1992 with a view to providing Gurukul system of training in Indian Classical music and dance.

Mahagami is member of the International Dance Council, UNESCO and holds a unique synthesis of the modern technological educational aids and the intense value based educational system of the ancient Gurukuls. Mahagami is the first ISO 9001: 2000-certified Gurukul in the entire world. It provides training to over 500 students and is a organizer of around 250 art events.
 
Mahagami, in association with the International Dance Council, aims to protect the dance heritage on the brink of extinction worldwide.
