Abu Dhabi, May 18: Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO) lived up to the expectations of the people of Abu Dhabi on Friday May 18 when they presented a fabulous show – the much-awaited “Mangalorean Day” - the annual event - held at Abu Dhabi Sheraton to a packed audience.

The mega event began with KCO’s melodious theme song “Manglurgar Ami Melun” (composed by veteran Jerry D’Mello – Abu Dhabi) which gave a jump start for the events to follow, when the vivacious master of ceremony Miss Daijiworld fame, Melita Pinto took over and kept the audience spellbound in her unique style. Melita was assisted by Rina Pinto and Jonathan Rego.

Music maestro Konkani Kala Ratna and Karnataka Rajya Prashasti recipient and the president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Eric Ozario and his wife Joyce and their troupe of talented musicians delivered a magical performance with their choicest songs which included – Shiramdaircho Pauvs, Kirak Mog, Vengeth Dorun, Suraychi Kirnam, Althodicho Lok, Adaun Bapa, Somari Papari and others.

Eric was joined by Melody King Rony D’Cunha who sang soulful solos both Goan and Mangalorean which included Bon Jezuchya Coventanth, Kantharn Karun, Gavungo Chedva etc. which as usual had the crowd glued to their seats.

Lulu. the Nightingale of Goa lived-up to her reputation and gave scintillating and foot-tapping songs – Bebdo, Sorgarazanth, Red Rose were prominent,. which encouraged the crowd to be on the floor all the time. 

The programme was split into four sessions which included skits, dances, honouring of sponsors and artistes.

The skits presented by Wilfred, Melwyn, Rina and the group had the audience into laughter riot with their rib-tickling comedy. Scintilating dances by youngsters were an added attraction.

Earlier Dolphy Vaz , the charismatic president of KCO welcomed the gathering and highlighted the achievements of KCO and thanked those who were responsible for their success and requested the same support for their various ventures in the future.

On this occasion Rajesh Sequeira, the veteran  crusader who was mainly responsible for landing of flights from the gulf at Mangalore was honoured by KCO for his untiring efforts towards converting Bajpe Airport into an international airport and thereby providing people of Mangalore the opportunity to reach Mangalore within a short span - the honour that he rightly deserved from the people of Abu Dhabi.

The afternoon session included DJ Music provided by Rudolph Borgess, Auction, Novelty Dances, Raffle draws  with attractive prizes etc.

The climax of the day was the mini traditional Mando and the non stop Baila, which made the audience ecstatic, people dancing to the wonderful music provided  by Eric Ozario’s group led by Alwyn Fernandes of Bollywood fame.

With this wonderful event, KCO  as usual was successful in providing quality entertainment to the people of Abu Dhabi, as entertainment package of this kind is rare in the Emirates of Abu Dhabi.

It was heartening to see people of Goa and Mangalore mingling freely thereby extending bond of one culture and Konkani as their uniting  force.

All KCO members and the artistes are to be commended for their efforts in organizing and presenting this wonderful show which will be remembered for a long  time to come.
