Mangalore, May 18: Deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao said that the malaria cases have drastically declined in the last few months in Dakshina Kannada.

Compared to the total number of cases registered in 2006, malaria was less present this year, thanks to extensive awareness as well as preventive measure taken by administration and people themselves.

He further said that till April 2006 a total of 3,045 malaria cases had been reported, while it is only 2,095 till April end 2007. He also added that all the patients were treated successfully.

However, everything is not fine with city limits, since most of the cases reported are from the MCC limits.  This is why deputy commissioner termed city limits as area of concern.

A total of 10 malaria clinics have been set up under MCC. About 8 control teams are functioning, in order to survey the cases in constructing sites and treat them at the earliest.

Laboratory experts have been designated from the health department to the corporation in this regard. Precautionary check-ups are being conducted on the migrant laborers, he explained.
