Mumbai, May 13: An eighty-year-old woman died due to suffocation along with her elderly son after a portion of their flat in north-west part of the city caught fire, early on Saturday, police said.

Lalbahadur Bhakaru (60) and Mohini Atmaram Bhakaru died of suffocation due to fire in their terrace flat situated in Rajsarovar Building on the Linking Road in Khar, they said.

The police had earlier given wrong age and had not established the relation between the two in an official statement.

They said some books and other material kept in the in a plastic sheet shed near the house caught fire around 0315 hours on Saturday and the flat was soon filled with smoke resulting in the death of the Bhakarus.
