Congress protesters detained at Smriti Irani house

New Delhi, June 29 (IANS): Scores of Congress party workers were detained by Delhi Police while staging a protest outside Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani's official residence here on Monday.

The protesters demanded Irani's resignation as the minister for providing false information to the Election Commission of India about her educational qualification.

The Congress workers raised slogans and held placards asking the minister to resign from the post.

Members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) also participated in the protest.

"Smriti Irani has no right to continue as HRD minister. She must resign," Amrish Ranjan Pandey, NSUI spokesperson, told IANS.

"We have detained around 30 protesters and taken them to the Parliament Street police station. They would be released after some time," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Jatin Narwal told IANS.
