Buenos Aires, June 27 (IANS): Veteran Argentina striker Carlos Tevez has left Italian football champions Juventus to join his boyhood club Boca Juniors.
"It is a day of joy and great satisfaction. The return of Carlos Tevez in an extraordinary moment of his career is fantastic news for all partners and supporters of Boca and Argentine football," BBC quoted Boca president Daniel Angelici as saying on Friday.
"The presence of Carlos will give another leap in quality to the great squad we have," Angelici added.
Tevez, 31, started his career at Boca in 2001 and went through a four-year spell at the city-based side where he scored 38 goals in 110 matches.
The South American Footballer of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2005 then moved to Brazilian side Corinthians in 2005 before joining English clubs West Ham United (2006-07), Manchester United (2007-09) and Manchester City (2009-13). Tevez won two English Premier League (EPL) titles with United and one with City.
Tevez, who has repeated expressed his desire to finish his career at Boca, then joined Turin-based Juventus, who won the Serie A in 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. He scored 20 Serie A goals last season and had been linked with Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Paris St-Germain.
The announcement came just before Tevez scored the decisive spot-kick to help his country secure a berth in the Copa America semifinals by defeating Colombia 5-4 in a dramatic penalty shootout in Santiago.
Tevez has represented Argentina in more than 70 matches and was also a part of 2004 Olympic gold-medal winning team.
