Shuttlers Jayaram, Sai, Pawar advance in Canada Open


Calgary, June 24 (IANS): Indian shuttlers Ajay Jayaram, B. Sai Praneeth and Anand Pawar progressed to the men's singles second round of the $50,000 Canada Open Grand Prix by earning straight-game wins in their respective openers here.

However, it was end of the road for Commonwealth Games bronze medallist R.M.V. Gurusaidutt as China's Shi Yuqi beat the Indian 21-9, 21-14 in 34 minutes at the Markin MacPhail Centre on Tuesday.

Ninth seed Jayaram beat Chinese Taipei's Shih Kuei Chun 21-10, 21-19 in 35 minutes and will next take on China's Huang Yuxiang.

Tenth seed Sai overcame Scot Alistair Casey in 27 minutes, winning 21-11, 21-17 and will next face Jan Frohlich of Czech Republic.

While, 11th seed Pawar beat American Nicholas Waller 21-9, 21-10 in 23 minutes and will go up against Zhu Siyuan of China in the Round of 32.
