Five killed as Bangladesh ferry capsizes

Dhaka, June 11 (IANS): At least five people were confirmed dead after a ferry carrying some 60-70 people capsized on Thursday in a river in Bangladesh's Bhola district.

"Five bodies including four children and one woman have been found so far," Xinhua quoted Anis Shikder, officer-in-charge of Bhola's Monpura police station, as saying.

The ferry capsized in Meghna, one of the three rivers, along with the Ganges and Brahmaputra, that form the Ganges delta.

Shikder said a search operation is underway and a rescue vessel has been called in to salvage the ferry.
