Two cities' infrastructure along Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor approved

New Delhi, May 30 (IANS): A cabinet panel has approved building trunk infrastructure for two investment regions along the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor for Gujarat's Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) and Maharashtra's Shendra Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA).

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) gave the approval on Friday.

The trunk infrastructure components include roads and services and building complex, as well as water and sewage treatment plants, the commerce ministry said in a statement here.

While the cost of work on the Dholera project is estimated to be around Rs.2,784.83 crore, work at the Shendra Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA) in the Shendra region of Maharashtra is estimated to cost Rs.1533.45 crore, the statement added.

"The Ahmedabad-Dhaulera Investment Region in Gujarat, and the Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Park near Aurangabad in Maharashtra, are now in a position to start work on basic infrastructure," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had said while presenting his first full budget in February.

Called the "New Gujarat Within Gujarat", the Dholera Special Investment Region is about 100 km from Ahmedabad, and is being developed by the DMIC Development Corporation with Japanese funding of around $4.5 billion.

The Dholera smart city is being developed as a greenfield city that will use ICT technology for management of amenities such as drainage, traffic and water supplies.
