Heat wave continues in Bihar


Patna, May 29 (IANS): Bihar continued to reel under a sweltering heat wave with the mercury in Gaya district touching 44 degrees Celsius on Friday, Met officials here said ruling out any possibility of rain or thundershower in the next 24 hours.

"Gaya remained the hottest place in Bihar with 44 degrees Celsius and Patna recorded 41 degrees Celsius on Friday. The temperature is likely to hover around the same on Saturday," a Met official said.

Patna Met office director A.K. Sen said monsoon will arrive in Bihar after the second week of June.

"People have to bear severe heat condition for the next few days before there is some respite"

Till date officials have reported only one death due to heat wave in the state.

But unofficial reports, received here from different parts of state, said that at least two dozen people have died due to heat wave in the past one week.
