Mark Ruffalo to receive award at Giffoni film fest

Los Angeles, May 22 (IANS): Actor Mark Ruffalo, best known as The Hulk from “Avengers” franchise, will be honoured with the Giffoni Experience Award at the Giffoni Film Festival, said to be Europe’s largest film festival for children.

A two-time Academy Award nominee, Ruffalo will engage in an onstage conversation with the festival’s young jurors, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

The Giffoni jury consists of thousands of children from 52 countries, who will judge films according to their age group. Films in competition include Carol Morley’s “The Falling” and Lou Howe’s debut “Gabriel”. The final line-up will be announced in June during the Milan EXPO.

The festival is described as a sounding board for cinema for young people. It has launched outposts in several countries over the years, including one in Georgia in October. Alan Rickman, Jessica Alba, Meryl Streep and Nicolas Cage have attended it in recent years.

Giffoni is also launching its own Multimedia Valley to foster creativity and culture for children in Southern Italy. With over 400,000 sq ft of space, the new centre will premiere in 2016.

The 45th edition of the Giffoni Film Festival runs from July 17-26.
