Piku has housefull shows - Another Happy New Year for Deepika?

Mumbai, May 20: Piku has released in the same month as Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) and has been gaining momentum since its release with an increase in footfalls which have subsequently resulted in the coffers filling up with Rs 100 crore. YJHD too had grossed Rs. 100 crores for the actress back in 2013.

2013 saw the actress garner three films that earned in hundreds of crores each, making it a blockbuster year for Deepika. YJHD had Ranbir and Deepika alongside each other in the film and 2015 begins with the two having their films pitted against each other for audience's attention.

Less flamboyant than Bombay Velvet, Piku tells the story of a girl caring for her aged father and balancing the various facets of her life. The movie has cashed in Rs 14.60 crore in, this, its second weekend. Piku has pocketed close to Rs 60.82 crore just at the domestic box office. The sum of its domestic and overseas gross collections comes up to Rs 107.34 crore. In the meantime, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma starrer, Bombay Velvet, has made just over 16 crore since its release on May 15.

This is the second movie in which Deepika's plays daughter to Amitabh Bachchan and their equation has been widely appreciated by the viewers. Irrfan Khan's performance too has been accruing praise from all corners. Deepika infact recently hosted a party to celebrate the success of PIKU.
