Archana Kamath loses in semis of Thailand Open TT


Bangkok, May 17 (IANS): Ting Ting Chen of Chinese Taipei ended Archana Kamath's fine run in the cadet girls semi-finals of the SET Thailand Open Junior & Sub-junior table tennis tournament here on Sunday.

Archana, who had beaten compatriot Srushti Halengadi in the quarter-finals, lost in straight sets 9-11, 7-11, 8-11 to her opponent, according to a Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) release.

Archana beat Memkamporn Naja of Thailand 11-7, 11-2, 11-3 in the pre-quarterfinal.

Utkarsh Gupta lost in the quarter-finals in the junior boy's category after losing to Tai Chun Yu of Chinese Taipei 1-11, 11-13, 3-11, 9-11.

In cadet boy's category, Sarthak Seth went down fighting to Cho Daeseong of South Korea 9-11, 11-4, 11-3, 9-11, 11-3 in the quarter-finals.

Junior boys (quarterfinals): Utkarsh Gupta lot to Tai Chun Yu (Tpe) 1-11, 11-13, 3-11, 9-11.

Pre-quarterfinals: Utkarsh Gupta (Ind) bt Maugwhan Chayadut (Tha) 11-8, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8; Lalrin Puia (Ind) lost to Hanam Kei (Jpn) 11-5, 6-11, 7-11, 4-11, 6-11.

Consolation semifinal: Sanish Ambedkar (Ind) lost to Naphat Panicharoen (Tha) 8-11, 11-7, 10-12, 6-11.

Cadet boys (quarterfinals) Cho Daeseong (Kor) bt Sarthak Seth (Ind) 9-11, 11-4, 11-3, 9-11, 11-3.

Pre-quarterfinal: Sarthak Seth (Ind) bt Jun Wei Bradley (Sin) 6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 11-8.

Junior girls (pre-quarterfinals)): Khet Khaun Tamalwan (Tha) bt Archana Kamath (Ind) 11-7, 11-5, 11-6, 11-6; Lin P Hyghan (Tpe) Maria Rony (Ind) 11-8, 11-6, 11-8, 11-5; Kamada Nami (Jpn) bt Sreeja Akula 7-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9.
