Zidane to lead Real Madrid legends against Liverpool in charity game


Madrid, May 15 (IANS): Retired French star Zinedine Zidane will be among the veteran legends of Spanish side Real Madrid who will take on English team Liverpool in the sixth edition of Corazon Classic Match, a charity football match at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium here on June 14.

Proceeds from the match will go to buying school supplies for around 20,000 needy children through the initiative of the Spanish Red Cross.

Tickets for the match will be available for five, 10 and 15 euros ($5-$17).

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez urged fans to attend the charity game, noting that the greatest legends from Liverpool, which won five European Cups, will appear in the game, including Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush.

The legends of Real Madrid will include Michel Salgado, Zidane, Fernando Morientes, Santiago Hernan Solari and other veteran players.

The charity game has been organised annually by the Real Madrid Foundation since 2010. The five previous editions include the participation of famous European clubs AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Juventus, Inter Milan against Real Madrid.

All five matches were won by Real Madrid, except for the last game against Juventus, which ended 2-2.
